A one-sided round medal. On the obverse, above and to the left it is written, “1877 Pleven Epopee” (Pleven Epopee). On the right there is an artillery piece on a pedestal – a detail of the entrance gate of the Museum-chapel of St. George in Pleven. The medal is dedicated to the heroic acts associated with the Russian-Turkish liberation war of 1877-1878 – the siege of Plevna (in the transcription of that period of time) conducted by Russian troops. The whole ordeal lasted from July 7 to November 28, 1877, right up until the surrender of the Turkish garrison of Osman Pasha. The siege of Plevna was one of the greatest battles of the war. It allowed the Russian army to go deeper into Bulgaria, predetermined the defeat of the Ottoman Empire and the restoration of the Bulgarian state.
