About the project

Under the auspices of the ‘Russian History’ Foundation

The main purpose of the historical and educational online project called ‘And the world saved remembers…’ is to ensure the historical accuracy and a fair assessment of the role that our country plaid in the war against fascism. Another reason for launching this project is to make Russian history more popular both in Russia and in other countries by sharing more information about the Battle of Stalingrad, giving positive examples of collective memory and impartial opinions of international experts and people from other countries.

The project is based on the unique collection of the Gifts presented to ‘The Battle of Stalingrad’ Panorama Museum. These are the gifts from common people as well as from statesmen of other countries. In one way or another most of the gifts are related to the heroic history of Stalingrad. Regardless of the nature of the gift or the status of the person who gave it – whether it was a simple handmade token from an unknown person living in a far village in the other part of the world or a masterpiece brought here by a celebrated figure – it is extremely valuable for the society and our collective memory. These gifts were given in token of homage and appreciation of the Stalingrad heroism. The collection has more than 7,500 items, documents and letters send from 65 countries.
