The monument, 18 meters high, was designed by sculptor Charles Machet (Charles Machet, 1902 - 1980). The first stone was laid by General de Gaulle in 1949, the monument was opened in 1951, a tomb of the unknown maquisard - in 1954; inscriptions on the monument [translation]: "Unknown maquisard rests here", "Where I die, the Motherland is reborn. (Louis Aragon)"

A gift from the Indian delegation of peace supporters who visited Stalingrad in January 1953. The surface of the shoe is covered with turquoise and red enamel, decorated with an inlay of a floral ornament. On the" back" of the shoe there is a platform and an indentation for a cigarette.
