The central statue of the Soviet War Memorial is the statue of a Soviet soldier standing over a broken swastika. The soldier is holding a sword in one hand and a German child in another. The statue commemorates the deeds of Nikolai Masalov from the village of Voznesenski, Tisulsky District, Kemerovo region, who rescued a German girl during the Battle in Berlin in April of 1945. The Monument created by Soviet sculptor Yevgeny Vuchetich, became a symbol of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the liberation of Europe from fascism.

A gift from the delegation of the Central Board of the German-Soviet Friendship Society led by Ulrich Brandenburg to the Tsaritsyn-Stalingrad Defense Museum. Monument "Soldier-Liberator" by sculptor Ye.V. Vuchetich became a symbol of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the liberation of the European nations from Nazism.
